Gst Rate

GST (Goods and Services Tax) rate in India is currently 18%. However, there are different rates applicable to different goods and services.

Here is a breakdown of the GST rates in India:

Standard Rate:

  • 18% – Applies to most goods and services, including:
    • Most manufactured items
    • Electronics and appliances
    • Motor vehicles
    • Telecommunication services
    • Financial services
    • Hotels and restaurants (except for certain specified items)

Special Rates:

  • 12% – Applies to:

    • Certain agricultural products
    • Educational services
    • Books and newspapers
    • Passenger transportation by rail and air
  • 5% – Applies to:

    • Certain foods
    • Hybrid electric vehicles
    • Affordable housing
  • 2% – Applies to:

    • Certain petroleum products
    • Water and juice
  • 1% – Applies to:

    • Some specific items used primarily for religious worship

Note:

  • The GST rates were reduced in July 2023 as part of the government’s relief measures to tackle inflation.
  • Some items are exempt from GST altogether.
