Definition of Foreign Portfolio Investment


A foreign portfolio investment refers to the purchase of financial assets (including shares, fixed deposits, derivatives etc) by an investor in a country other than their own. Generally, they are expected to generate passive income for investors, and do not involve a majority holding in any organization (in contrast to foreign direct investments (LINKED))
