Keep in mind that holiday dates can vary from year to year. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep an eye on the trading holidays and plan the trades accordingly.
Trading Session
Trading in the commodities derivatives segment at MCX is divided into two parts:
Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Evening Session: 5:00 p.m. – 11:30/11:55 p.m.
Except for Saturdays and Sundays, trading occurs every day of the week.
Settlement Holiday
A settlement holiday is when the settlement of financial transactions in a securities market does not happen. During a settlement holiday, the clearing and settlement processes are suspended and put on hold for that day. No securities or funds are exchanged between the buyers and sellers although an individual can withdraw the fund from their trading account. Settlement holidays are often observed for various reasons, including public holidays and market-specific events.
Muhurat Trading
'Muhurat Trading' means a special trading session held in the Indian stock markets on the auspicious festival of Diwali. The term 'Muhurat' means auspicious beginning. Investors and traders throughout the country offer prayers to Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesha.
On the day of Diwali, Muhurat trading is held during a specific time in the evening. The exact timing for the same is fixed by the stock exchanges in India, and generally, it lasts for an hour.
